The water cooler moment. Usually refers to the moment in a film people will be talking about when they gather around the water cooler at work, but when Gasland debuted in 2010, the people gathered around the cooler were surely holding a lighter to the tap to see if the water would catch on fire. Gasland wasn’t the first documentary on fracking. Split Estate, an excellent documentary directed by Debra Anderson and narrated by Ali McGraw, preceded it by a year, but never attracted the same attention. Gasland brought countless people into the anti-fracking movement and simultaneously created a veritable industry of Gasland debunkers. Director Josh Fox’s long-awaited follow-up debuted at the Tribeca film festival on April 21st. Gasland, Part II is set to premier on HBO in early July, but, just as he did with Gasland, Josh has arranged with HBO to take the film to selected cities around the country to help activists and organizers on the ground reach large audiences. Bethlehem is one of just 20 cities selected for the tour. The public is invited to this special screening free of charge, but your donations to help defray the cost of the venue will be gratefully accepted.
